Der Landkreis Harburg gehört zu den wachstumsstärksten Regionen im Hamburger Umland – gleichzeitig verschärft sich der Fachkräftemangel kontinuierlich. Besonders betroffen sind systemrelevante Bereiche wie Pflege, Logistik, IT, Bau und Tourismus.

Die gezielte Rekrutierung und Integration internationaler Fach- und Nachwuchskräfte ist eine Schlüsselstrategie, um dem zunehmenden Arbeits- und Fachkräftebedarf entgegenzutreten. Das Welcome Center Landkreis Harburg begegnet diesem Bedarf als beratende Anlaufstelle für internationale Fachkräfte und als Servicestelle für Unternehmen.

Das Projekt verfolgt zwei zentrale Ziele:
1. Internationale Fach- und Nachwuchskräfte für den Landkreis Harburg gewinnen, beraten, begleiten und integrieren.
2. Regionale Unternehmen – insbesondere KMU – bei der Rekrutierung, Beschäftigung und Integration internationaler Fachkräfte unterstützen.

Das Welcome Center ist angegliedert an die Kreisvolkshochschule Landkreis Harburg und arbeitet in Kooperation mit der Stabsstelle Kreisentwicklung/ Wirtschaftsförderung/ Mobilität. Gefördert wird dieses Strukturprojekt von der Europäischen Union, dem Land Niedersachsen sowie aus Mitteln des Landkreis Harburg.

Es besteht eine enge Zusammenarbeit mit dem Welcome Center Heidekreis, deren bewährte Konzepte übernommen und an die regionalen Anforderungen im Landkreis Harburg angepasst werden. So entsteht ein überregionales Modellprojekt mit dem Potential, es auf weitere Landkreise in ganz Nordostniedersachsen zu übertragen.

Attracting and successfully integrating international professionals and young talent in the region

The District of Harburg (Landkreis Harburg) is one of the most dynamic growth areas around Hamburg. At the same time, the shortage of skilled workers is becoming increasingly severe. Essential sectors such as healthcare, logistics, IT, construction, and tourism are particularly affected.

The strategic recruitment and integration of international skilled workers and young professionals is a key approach to meeting the growing demand for labour and expertise. The Welcome Center District of Harburg meets this need by offering support for international professionals and practical services for local employers.

Our project focuses on two main objectives
- Attracting, advising, supporting, and integrating international professionals and young talent into the District of Harburg.
- Assisting regional companies – especially small and medium-sized enterprises – in recruiting, employing, and integrating international international skilled workers.

The Welcome Center is affiliated with the Adult Education Center (Kreisvolkshochschule) of the District of Harburg and works in cooperation with the Department for District Development / Economic Development / Mobility (Stabsstelle Kreisentwicklung/ Wirtschaftsförderung/ Mobilität). The initiative is funded by the European Union, the State of Lower Saxony, and the District of Harburg.

We also collaborate closely with the Welcome Center Heidekreis, adopting proven concepts and tailoring them to the specific needs of the District of Harburg. Together, we are creating a cross-regional model that can be transferred to other districts across Northeast Lower Saxony.
